I want to keep track of quilts I have made, the pattern, fabrics used and who they go to, that kind of thing. Oh, and a picture. I can make one up in Word but a template would help.
Any suggestions on this would be great.... I have checked pinterest but what I found was more for project planning,
not to record what was done.
Would love ideas...

I created my own Word template years ago. I write down the following:

Name of quilt
Pattern or inspiration source
Main colors
Date started piecing (at least month and year for these dates)
Date finished piecing
Date started quilting
Date finished quilting
Size of finished quilt
Is it machine or hand pieced? Is it machine or hand quilted? If part of is done by someone else, I put their name and how I know them.

Who it is for and any notes about the occasion for the gift. If it is for a baby, I put their birth date.
Quilt Label information.
A large section on the back for any other notes I may want to make.

I then put the sheet in a sheet protector along with fabric scraps and photos.

I track quilts I have quilted for others in an Excel spreadsheet. I have cells for each of the following:
Start
Finish
Quilt name or generic description
Quilt owner
quilt size
Type of quilting I did (Panto, custom, ruler work, feathers, pebbling, etc)
Cost per s/i I charged
Total charges


Photos are in a separate database but a file is created for each quilt (as I always take multiple photos, sometimes before and after quilting and many detail shots) with the same name I assigned it in the spreadsheet.

I started a book with all that info and the picture. But after about 100 I lost track and quit.

I bought a database software for collections called Recollector. I just love it. It allows you to define the fields you want to keep track of. It creates a data entry screen for those fields. You can have a picklist on a field for most used values (I use this for the various batting types I use). You can display the collection as a spreadsheet, and then sort on any field. I have 1 field I called fabric category, so if I am in the mood to make a string quilt, I can pull up all of the previous string quilts I have made, and quickly be reminded of one I really liked. I also have a field called season, so if I want to display a seasonal wall hanging I can find it. Some of the other things I keep track of are quilt owner, machines used, whether labeled or not, stabilizer used if has machine embroidery, digitizer, of course pattern name and designer or if free from the internet. It does let you keep several images too. I am not affiliated with the software, just a real happy user. It costs $49, and is well worth it. Here is a link. http://www.collectingcatalog.com/
By the way, my DH is a computer programmer and I kept asking him to create something, so he searched on-line and found this and said it is a bargain in relationship to how much time it would have taken him to create.

I have a binder that I put a photo of the quilt. I write a date and who or where it went. Very basic info.

I use Quilt Album. Its a free software program that can be found here http://www.quiltalbum.com/ It is really simple to use and you can also add pictures of the quilt. There is a form to add name of quilt, start & finish dates, pattern, designer, batting, quilter, etc. and there is a note section.

Along with all the other suggestions ... you may want to consider including -
* costs of fabrics and supplies
* fees, if quilted by someone else
* batting
* thread used - brand, type, weight, colour #
* fabric samples
* photos of front, back and label

A lot of this is really dependent on how detailed you want your records to be.

I decided I would sooner have an old fashioned scrapbook style book, rather than a computer record.
It got started but I have not kept it up!
Perhaps a goal, to get back at it?
