I would go to any local thrifts store like Salvation Army or Goodwill. They do have senior discounts but certain days are 50% off.

I would never pay $6-$10 for a shirt from a thrift store, that's insane as far as I'm concerned, the thrift store where I shop, shirts are maybe $3 and it benefits the dogs and cats. I also buy clothing and fabrics at yard sales and auctions.

I find them at yardsales. I buy the largest size men's shirts if possible. I won't pay over $1 shirt. It takes a lot of time cutting up the shirt. Usually one yardsale with men's shirts I'll find enough there to make a quilt.

Ok, thanks to everyone who made the suggestion to go check at the Salvation Army. I don't go there very often because they don't have fabric. But I went this morning and there was a promotion: 3 shirts for 10$! Even in garage sale, I don`t think I can find cheaper (nobody bother to sell anything for 1$ in my area). I bought 12! In addition it`s in a young and upscale neighborhood so the shirt are designer, very nice quality. It will make a stunning quilt.

Our goodwill and other thrift stores have a tag sale. At Goodwill all _____ color tags are $1.99 on Tuesday...each week a new color. An item only stays in the store 1 month. Some even have bag sale...all you can fit for $5. Call and ask the stores before going out.

Do you have any relatives or friends nearby? Are you on Facebook? Put out a request for people to save their shirts for you. You'd be surprised how many people will empty their closets for something like this! Gives them a reason to go buy new shirts, and a lot of people will have a pile of them that they just haven't taken to Goodwill yet

Oh, Cindi, it's such a good idea! I have plenty of brothers-in-law who are working in office and must wear shirt. Why didn't I think about it myself? Thanks a lot!

Hi, I see you're in Montreal, so what about St Vincent de Paul charity shop, or a vestiaire at a local church? If you do a little calling around, you might find that some have a 'bag day'. About twice a year our local vestiaire sells a plastic grocery bag for $5 and I can stuff it full of whatever strikes my fancy i.e. men's cotton shirts. Maybe you could get friends or relatives to save some for you if they are donating, too.
    Good luck!

Walmart has many mens shirts marked down to one dollar or less, especially during a change of season.

The Salvation Army stores in the area surrounding Rochester, NY have 50% off apparel on Wednesdays.
