I just quilted a quilt that had embrodiary on it and the work was beautiful. The lady told me that she purchased some form flex which is similar to a muslin backing. I tried it on a piece I am working on and is great. All you do is purchase this by the yard which is usually cheaper then muslin backing. You cut it to the size of your embrodiary piece then soak in cold water allow to dry and iron it onto the back of your embrodiary design and then start sewing. The stitches lay so very nice regardless of what type of thread you use. You might check to see if your lqs has some or if there is a Hobby Lobby near you I know they carry it. I think I paid like $1.29 per yard for it.
