there was a set of wedge rulers a long time ago that I loved to used to make circular medallions for my quilts. They made a large center piece. I can't remember who made them, but I was wondering if anyone how to make them from scratch?

Sorry don't know the names of the rulers.

To make your own, depending on how big you need the circles, I'd use either plastic template sheets or if they are to large for that, posterboard. I'd make a complete circle then quarter it.

Determine your size, cut a length of yarn, string, whatever you have, with enough to hold at one end, maybe use a push pin to anchor the center, pull taunt, then trace the circle shape from the other end, taped to a pencil. Just cut out shape, and quarter. Cheap templates.

Or if you have a plate that's the same size or any thing else laying around the house that could be used similarly.

Hope this helps. Sorry if I was confusing.

Phillips fiber art has a '10 degree Wedge' ruler and several patterns to go with it.

Also, Kaye Wood's 'Starmaker' 6 or 8 will do wedges.

I have a set of wedge rulers that make a big circle. You sew a strata and then cut out the wedge. I made one big circle one but I was a beginner quilter and it poofed up like a cupcake! I need to try again if I can find the rulers. A new version of these wedge rulers are getting popular again.

The strata were what I was thinking of. Great idea to make them (the wedges) with plastic....must have been having a blonde moment since I was thinking of the wedges, not the fact that they make a circle! Thank you for all the tips. The strata units help with the cupcake problem somehow. I have made a few circles with the strata and they always come out flat. (amazing for a free-wheeling quilter like me)
