    Default Removing Stabilizer

I am making a baseball quilt with pieced baseball blocks and decorative stitch used to make the red stitching. I used water soluble stabilizer. I couldn't get all the little pieces removed from between the red stitches. Will that dissolve when I wash the finished quilt and look okay, or should I sit now with a pair of tweezers and pick pick pick? TIA

It will dissolve. I would rinse it 2 times to make sure it all comes out.

I've used the stuff once. I was surprised at how long it took for it to dissolve. I let my piece soak for about 30 minutes before it dissolved completely. I think it will come out when it's washed.

Also you need to use warm water.

I use WS for machine embroidery. Most of it will "tear away" from the project, then I soak in warm water. A little agitation (rubbing it together the old timey way of doing laundry) helps. If the pieces that concern you are small enough that you would have to pick them out with tweezers (not the whole sheet of stabilizer left behind like some have done) then I would just quilt it even without washing it out first. It will dissolve after a few washing, it can't be seen or felt.

Thanks for all the tips. I was unaware of the warm water idea. And had no idea it took so long to soak. Lessons learned.

It does take much longer than I would have thought. I’m using the fabric-like wss vilene but there are many brands. I’m doing some mats and coasters using 2 layers of WSS. Warm water is a must. I gave up and just ran it all thru the quick wash delicate cycle because the soaking was taking forever. That worked great and if it’s a coaster or mat I dry it flat on a towel instead of the dryer. They’re gifts so I want them to look perfect when I hand them over. If it was for me I’d have tossed them in the dryer.
