My Bernina 1230 had a lot of use--when it would only sew slow speed I traded it for a new Bernina. Had tried to have it fixed several times by a certified repairman. Anyway, thru some mix up in paperwork I found out that the dealer resold it. Surprised me since I was lead to believe that it couldn't be fixed.

Good luck. I was never able to get mine repaired (had a similar issue - just backlight on the screen but otherwise didn't power up at all). Local shop wanted more in diagnostic fees than I saw working ones selling for on eBay.

I bought a Janome to replace it and sold the Bernina (with full disclosure that it didn't work) on Craigslist for the parts/accessories.

From what I understand when the electronic/computer parts and boards begin to fail, especially one after another it may be time to start looking around for something else. Depending on your needs it may be wiser to go to a vintage machine that is a workhorse without plastic parts. I have several machines that are vintage machines that just keep on going like that little Energizer Bunny, and machines with plastic parts that are not worth saving or repairing even one time. I have replaced (myself) the computer board in one machine since it was just a few screws and plugs from the computer to the new part and the machine worked fine. I had to wait a fair amount of time to get the part was all.

My Janome was acting the same way as yours and I had to replace the foot pedal (which was under warranty-thank goodness) and it works great now. You might want to get an estimate on cost of repair and make a decision from there. Good luck

Mine did that one time and it turned out to be the brushes on the motor.
