One of my friends at work asked me if I could repair a quilt she and her mom made her son when he was born( he is 16 now.). She did the top and than her mom (who had passed on now) put together the quilt sandwich and tied it. My friend put on the binding and the first time she washed it the binding fell apart. She brought it in to work. The top was one of those cross stitch quilt panels but she just colored the cross stitches with a fabric marker. The back was flannel and had shrunk up a lot. I really didn't like it but I took it home and squared it up, stabilized the edges and attached a mint green satin binding (I was hoping it would be close to what she used.) I brought it to her today. She pulled it out of that bag and started crying. I had matched the color of binding she had used. She just kept crying and thanking me and hugging me and than hugging the quilt. You know.......suddenly that quilt looked beautiful. I'm so glad I did it. She kept saying her first grandchild will be covered with a quilt made by great grandma, grandma and a very special friend. OK....I cried too.

Thanks for sharing the story. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - and in the caring of a friend.

Wow! What a great story! Really brings home what quilting is all about -- not the blue ribbon winners at shows, but the warmth of the handmade cover that extends down the generations.
