A request to owners of vintage to the latest machines ---

I don't have all my machines set up. Here is stitches at number 2 setting.
Bottom is Bernina 1260
Second one is Brother 1500
Top is Singer Quantum which had dark thread in the bobbin.
The Singer Quantum makes the best stitch of the three.
I'll do the Janome Gem, Singer 301, 15-90 and Featherweight when they are set up.

I neglected to say which seams were from which machine! The 3 on the left are from my Singer 15-91. The 3 on the right are from my Janome MC 4800. On the picture of the back of the fabric, it is reversed.

Here is what my Viking Dealer said about straight stitching on old versus new machines.
A straight stitch sewing machine will ALWAYS have a nice straight stitch because that is all it does. Any machine that has the option of a zig-zag stitch will never have a perfectly straight stitch. Even when you set it for straight stitch it will stitch in an ever so slight zig zag stitch. It's the way they are made, and there is no way around it. If you want a perfectly straight stitch on you sewing, then use an older machine with only straight stitch capabilities.

I know I love the way my Old 1964 Singer 328 Zig Zags, a lot nicer then my 2011 Elna 7300 Pro Quilting machine does. I have also found I love the way my old Singer 403 stitches a straight seam better then any of the others. I love my Elna, Eloise, though for she makes quilting a breeze. So there is a big difference in my eyes on the abilities of the old vs the new.
