    Default Right angled seams?

    Hi, All,

Has anyone ever used right-angled seams to bring parts of a quilt top together? I've used them in garment sewing. Is the the concept the same?

    Thanks!

    A

Yes this is often used in quilting but in quilting it is referred to as a set in seam or a Y seam. Most commonly used in the traditional piecing methods for:
    Lemoyne Star
Lone Star (AKA Star of Bethlehem)
    Tumbling blocks
    Attic windows

Judy Niemeyer uses them a lot in her patterns as does Edyta Sitar. It is an invaluable skill to have in your quilt making arsenal.

If you are asking about darts, I have used an invisible ladder stitch to sew a small dart in a wonky border. It was in a corner and I then quilted a line on top, it worked perfectly. I have seen several long arm quilter's quilt a dart in wavy borders.

I agree with feline. You might be thinking of a "Y" seam.

Set in seams, of course! Thank you everyone! (And, sorry for the delay in getting back to you--I thought I'd already responded, but I guess I didn't!).
