Ripped My Border Strips But Still Got Curves! Why?

I rarely rip, but when I do, the fabric is rinsed and spun in the washer, then dried in the dryer. The ripping stretches the fabric at the torn edge. Rinse and dry seems to get the fabric back in shape.
