Do you like it better than doing a multi-scrap binding?


Maybe I'll just go with the teal, haven't ripped it out yet. DH says, well, at least it's practical, won't show dirt. So the binding will be the practical part of the quilt, LOL.

I like the original too. But I like brights.

Actually I almost always make my bindings a contrast to that final border. I think it adds another interest level to the quilt.

I think your teal is perfect. Have you actually taken it out yet?

The binding is the last thing I audition after the quilt is quilted. I'm surprised at how often I change my mind as to what I had in mind and what I actually use after the audition. I have even used fabric that wasn't in the quilt because after auditioning it it just looked the best. When I cut my pieces for my quilt I'm careful to give myself as many options as possible so I have some left for bindings. Since I rarely use a pattern for a quilt I'm winging it when it comes to how much fabric is for what which could explain why I sometimes use a totally different fabric than is in the quilt but it works for me.

I know what you mean about winging it! This quilt was an exercise in winging it! It started out with a Seusical black and red dot plus the Seuss fabric and ended up as this! Oh, it also went through an entirely pink phase, which was about exasperation, LOL.

I thought a big block 9-patch would be quick and easy. This quilt is for someone who doesn't really understand "quilts," so I didn't want to expend the kind of time I might normally expend. But the limitation the "big block" set up for me made my life much harder! LOL, figures. It's all about the learning experience.

And no, I haven't taken the teal out yet. And because this is for a non-quilt understander, I should probably just go with the teal. Either way, it will look just as nice lining the trash can, LOL.

But because I want a non-quilt understander to love it, I'm being especially careful.

I like the original choice for binding as well because it's in the top. I usually bind my quilts using the fabric that I backed the quilt with, it's usually a solid color.

Unfortunately, I didn't have enough of the backing to do a binding. It definitely would have been cute, tho....

FYI, the backing. And maybe this is an argument for keeping the teal. If they don't like the front, the teal is a perfect frame for the overall tossed Seuss on the back. And I'm sure they'll love the backing. The little girl loves her Horton. It's her favorite toy:

I think the teal is great,very complimentary! Our first instinct or choice is usually the "right" one-isn't that what we were told before SATs inthe 60 s and 70s? LOL
