Mom had one years ago. I saw one on an estate sale last weekend. I didn't buy it, I bought vintage hankies instead.

I Googled and found this one - it would be great for ironing yardage.

Mind you, the price was hefty.

K, how old is the one you have? I am 71, and my mom had one from the early 30's. I can remember using it when I was very young to iron pillowcases and dishtowels. Yeah, back in those days they ironed everything!

My mother-in-law had one of these. I got married in 1960 that is when I seen her use it. My sister-in-law has it now she offered it to me a couple of years ago I never took it.It is in her basement maybe I will check it out

The ones I saw in the 50's were called mangles and had two rollers and much larger than the one someone put a link to.I think they were used in dry cleaner places. I only press fabrics, stopped ironing clothes years ago when poly/cotton or permanent press clothes came out, all we wear now.

Well, I am only 54, and since my mother ironed EVERYTHING, we had one. Double roller and we were able to sit down & iron. I just remember having to be very careful about the fingers...rolling under the bars, Ouch! & if you were ironing polyester, turn the heat WAY down. I think this was the machine that ruined my favorite pair of forest green poly slacks. It did make it quick though to run things through the machine. Now that I think about it I wonder if my Dad bought it to help make my life easier? I wouldn't have put it past him.
    Have fun with yours, Susan
