Rotary blade disposal
#11
I have discovered I can get quite a bit more use out them to trim my quilts before applying the binding. Doesn't make much sense but they work. After that I put them in a blade container I mark as old, old. I have lots of just old blades.

I change blades at first skip so I have a lot of blades I don't use anymore. I called the local hardware store and they said no they wouldn't re use them or sharpen them much less be responsible to selling them to anyone. Oh Well, at least I tried.

I use a clean plastic Parmesan cheese shaker for my old pins and needles. I’ve had the same one for about 5 years and it’s still only about half full. Put the pins in the shaker holes, the blades in through the pour hole.

I take mine ( in a container) to our local hardware store, the sharpen them and use them, one hardware I know of sells them as used blades to carpet layers at discount prices. There are many ( trade people) who would appreciate your used blades. Small, local companies, tradesmen are always looking for ways to save a little money. I haven’t thrown my blades away in 15 years
Good to know! Thanks!

I have a small glass pickle jar. My DH put a small round hole if the top and then painted the top bright orange. So now when ever I change a needle or bend a pin I just drop them through the hole. For cutting blades I do have to unscrew the top. Nice and secure - when ready to dispose of, I will grab a new pickle jar - swap the lids and throw the full on away.

Remember the slits in the bathroom walls for men to dispose their used razor blades? My grandparents lived in an old Victorian downtown house and I use to be fascinated with that slit. Where did the blades go? What else was in there? A mystery in a old big house for a little girl to ponder.
