Love my Olfas! I like the straight handle ones, since I use both hands~

I have a Martelli and love mine also and like you said very little hand or wrist strain. I have others but use that one all the time since I bought it.

Also, it only likes the blades without notches or it will wobble. There is a right & left hand version so make sure you get the correct one for you.

So, no, they are not made equal. You have to find one that is comfortable for you at a price you're willing to pay. For a good all around--easy & cheap to find blades for--I would recommend Olfa. For problems with carpal tunnel or hand strength--I recommend Martelli. For pretty--I recommend Donna Dewberry!
Seriously, a right and left handed version? I bet the left handed one is more expensive. What is the difference? That just seems like another price gouge for those that do not know how to adapt. I'm left handed, btw, and I do just fine with all of my rotary cutters.
If I remember correctly they are the same price right and left hand.

After trying Dritz and Olfa, I gave up and bought a third brand -- Clover. It's ergonomical and easy to work with. I gave the Dritz and Olfa away because I couldn't work with them.

I have an Olfa and the Martelli's right and left. I am left handed but I cut fabric with both hands. Love them all. I used to use the Fiscars but not crazy about them, so that is why I switched.

I was in Joann's this evening and all the Olfa cutters, mats and rulers were 50% off for their daisy sale. I'm not sure how long the sale lasts.

The Olfa's work the best for me...I use the medium and large size the most. I had the Martelli and got rid of it. I have Osteoarthritis in my thumb joint and that cutter aggravates it...maybe because of the different way you have to hold it.

Thanks for the heads up on the sale. I went to Joann's and got a 5 pk of blades (I don't like the HF blades). I was tempted to get a new cutter too.
