Thanks for all the great information! I went to Joann's yesterday and bought the Fiskar's 14" rotating mat with my 60% off coupon. At that discount there's very little risk. I just still cannot understand why the Olfa 17" rotating mat price is $85!

I went to Lowe's and bought a round piece of wood, topped it with an old cutting mat that I cut down to size and glued on. Screwed that onto a lazy susan type metal rotating disk and had a wonderful mat the size I wanted for a lot less money than even the smallest rotating mat for sale. Love it.

I love my rotating mat I bought at the Jacksonville, FL quilt show a year ago - it is white and 24x18 with a mat that is removable and replaceable! The base it rotates on is large so when I'm working on the edges it doesn't tilt. I don't remember the name of it and since I'm not home, I can't go check. If anyone is interested, just post back and I'll look when I get home tomorrow.

I just bought the Fiskars 14" rotating mat and when I rotate it the mat slips off the base, so that isn't going to work well. I saw someone else here had the same problem. Does the Olfa mat work better?
