Default Ruler quilting & skipped stitches...

When I use my ruler foot and ruler and sew normally...pushing the fabric away from myself through the machine, everything is fine. When I want to pull the fabric towards me along the with the ruler, I get skipped stitches and sometimes totally missed stitches. Obviously, you have to be able to do both because you don't want to turn an entire quilt to make lines in the other direction.

When I free motion with my machine, it has no problem going in any direction.

Any ideas why it is skipping stitches with the ruler foot?

    Thanks, Watson

I am not sure if when you say sewing normally, are you feet engaged?? I wouldn't be pulling the quilt towards you if your feet are engaged. I try the ruler thing and I found it difficult to move the quilt and ruler and keep the ruler in place.

The video suggests that you leave the feed dogs up and adjust them to "0". Is this what you mean by the feet being engaged?
I will try it with the feed dogs dropped and see if that makes a difference.

If the stitches are skipping or not forming, it is probably a timing issue. You are maybe moving the fabric too fast for the stitch to form or you are pulling the needle off center enough that the stitch won't form. Try slowing your speed.

Well that's interesting because you do have to move your needle to the left to centre it in the foot. Hmmmm.

    Watson,
Before you get your timing checked out You might want to try lowering your ruler foot just a tiny bit. One of my machines skips stitches in some directions when I use the ruler foot if I have it adjusted too high off the fabric.
