I have two Olfa mats. I mainly use the 24" X 36" to cut on. I've had this one for at least 5 years and it still looks new. I paperpiece a lot, so I know it's been cut on 1000's of times and you can't even tell. As far as rulers go, I use my 6" X 24" the most, for cutting strips from fabric. When piecing I use my 1" X 12" one a lot.

I haven't been to any LQSs in PHX, but I'm sure someone here can recommend some.
We'll be in Chandler. Just come and go from the airport in PHX.
"Three Guys Quilting" in Auwhatukee is a great shop.

I hope you have a fun and safe trip!
Me too! I wouldn't make this my ONLY ruler, but if you want to add to a collection, this one is great, especially when you do a lot of strip piecing.

get a Accucut Go! instead of a bunch of rulers. The Walmart mats are not self healing and will dull your blades.

I just purchased a "Big Mat" by Sew Easy Products at the Rocky Mountain Sew Expo. It is 34" x 22", has a five year warranty, is self healing, fabric stays put while cutting and I love it. My go to ruler is an Omnigrid 25" x 5" and it is the one I grab for just about everything. With my cutting mat I got a "mat healer" which works like magic, not really; but when I'm done cutting I just drag it across the area I used and it is just like new.

Looks like you've got lots of tips already about rulers, etc. I may be a little late, but, am going to put my 2C in:) OLFA mats for sure. I love the Creative Grid rulers...I only have the 4.5x12.5 and 6.5x12.5...would like to buy more, oh well. You can see on ANY color of fabric. LOVE Elenor Burns Sq. up ruler and flying geese rulers. Before I heard of the square up ruler for triangles, I used just a regular square up ruler...I believe 6" sq??? GOOD luck:)

I think the 6 1/2"< 12 1/2", 24 x 6, and a 12 x 6 1/2 are used the most. I have an olfa mat and it is still working just fine and I have been using it about 10 years.

I use this the most also. The others are either too slim or not the right square.

I have an Olaf self healing mat. I actually soak it overnight in cold water in my tub and dry flat and its in great shape after 5 years. I use my 9 inch square ruler a lot.
