I have a box full of rulers and only use a couple all the time. My favorite has the black paint markings almost worn off the bottom, it is 8" x 24", and the other is 6 1/2" x 24".

I bought the Eleanor Burns flying geese rulers about a year ago or so. Although i've only used them a few times, I have to say I really like them. I've seen other ways of making the geese, but this way works for me just fine. I'm sure you will like them as I do. If not, they weren't that much and you can try another method and see if that works better for you.

I pieced a Christmas quilt last december and did a border of flying geese in it and then a 5 inch plain border around that. Well, it looks good but recently I got it out and laid it out on my table to measure it again. I was going to get the backing ready for this quilt and get it all laid out with the backing, batting and quilt top and get it pinned so I could quilt it....NOT. It will not lay flat! There is no way i think it can be quilted! I measured here and there to see why it is laying so wonky. My flying geese have it so out of wack that it won't lay flat. It is off almost two inches in one area. Well also the middle of the quilt is a piece of what we call cheater cloth. Looks quilted but not.....I thought it would be good practice for freemotion quilting on this. It was off a little on being entirely square when I cut it out. I cut it along the design on the fabric but it was off...and the fabric was not cheap but the design was sure off. So guess it will now be a table cloth...lol I was disapointed as this quilt was going to be my project for practicing free motion quilting before I worked on a quilt top that was more special. Anyway, I bought the Flying geese rulers by Eleanor Burns to help me learn to make "good geese"...lol

I don't hook mine on the edge of the table. I put the "lip" against the edge of the mat.

LOL So glad to see I am not the only spendthrift! I spent $99 plus tax on guidelines 4 quilting rulers, sounded good, but still haven't figured out how to convert patterns to make them work! sheesh

I have a lot of rulers and even stepped on a few and broke them when I didn't realize they had fallen to the floor. I think that most of us will use all of our rulers one day or another.

PatriceJ, LOL, that's the same ruler I have a don't use, and for the exact same reason! I thought I was the only one that couldn't use it!
    Kind Regards,
