A friend of mine received some 1920's quilts from her mother (They were never used) But they have rust stains on one. How do you get them out? She wanted to send them to the cleaners!

I think lemon juice takes out rust - don't know if it still works if the stains are very old.

Try a bit of Iron out on a test piece . I used it once to get rid of a rust stain on a table cloth I was embrodering that I left the metal hoop on too long in one spot and had rust.

Oxi Clean works for me. Try it on a small spot first before soaking the whole quilt.

Are you sure it's rust and not the orangey-brown acid stains from contact with wood? Perhaps from being stored in a dresser or on a shelf? The bottom one would have stains, the rest maybe not.

thank you every one that has replied. the rust is in small spots so don't think that it is from wood. Will tell her to try these methods and will get back to you.
