Default Sandy Hook Elementary School - 700 blankets needed right away - FILLED already

    Project Linus is wonderful

I am the North Wales coordinator and today I received an email from Head Office, it makes me proud to be a quilter.

"Sandy Hook Elementary School - 700 blankets needed right away
Blanket Need for Connecticut Filled - THANK YOU!!!
From: Mary Balagna , National VP
    December 14, 2012

    Dear Linda,
Thank you to everyone for the blankets you have committed to send to Connecticut . Thank you also to those who offered blankets after we reached our goal. I will let you know if we need more.

We are simply overwhelmed by your response. I sent out the initial request for 700 blankets at 10:04 CST and we filled the need by 11:00pm CST. That's less than an hour.

What an amazing and most generous group of coordinators we have!

    Thank you so much!
    Mary
Mary Balagna Project Linus National VP"

My thoughts, prayers and love goes out to all affected.

That's incredible--quilters can always be counted on. Thank you and your fellow quilters for sending love to our country when we so need it.

What is the address to send quilts to? Can you please send the address in an email to all of us? I know that the order has been filled, but there are siblings, neighbors children, other children that have been effected by this to hand out to.
May God arms and love surround each and everyone in this community and see us all through this, especially the children.

Please remember there is always such a desperate need for quilts, especially with the holiday season coming up, if you explore this page http://www.projectlinus.org/volunteer/ there should be a "Chapter" near you, if not why not volunteer to run one yourself?

The other sensible thing to do is to follow my example, I always have at least 2 - 3 Huggles, as I call them, ready to send when there is an emergency, remember Hurricane Sandy? If you go to this page http://www.equilter.com/cgi-bin/webc...uiltrelief.htm they are organising a Quilt relief for them, what better Christmas present could you give, just an idea.

That is so wonderful! We are a good people!

I have a suggestion...not sure PL is the place for this...but why not? I think it would be wonderful to offer to make Memory quilts for each family who lost a child. Making them from their t-shirts/clothing including photos. This seems to me could be a great healing instrument for the rest of the family. I will offer to make one if anyone coordinates it there. It might be a great project for a local guild that can stay in touch with the family.

If anyone co-ordinates a Memory quilt project for these families, please PM me. I would be honored to make one.

I have emailed Mary of Project Linus

    "Hello Mary,

I posted a thread about the 700 quilts response for Sandy Hook Elementary School http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...ml#post5725574 and a few, just for starters, would like to offer their services to make a Memory quilt for the families of the tragically departed.

Is this something that would be acceptable if so please let me know as know I can muster up a host of volunteers"

I will let you know of any response.

I'd do anything I can to help the families of that town. I don't understand though why the town needs blankets.
