I did a quilt with satin stitching once, and really didnt care for the end look. There were several small pieces that came together and the stitching was awkward looking. Now I use a stitch called feather stitch, or the blanket stitch. Almost any stitch that will go from side to side will work if you get the width and lenght right.

Look at the letter C. If you trace the inside edge of the letter it's an innie. If you trace the outside edge of the letter it's an outie.

HI Thanks everyone, for explaining my innie and outie. When you do your practice, you will find that sewing on the outside of a curve is different from sewing on the inside. You probably would also want to practice pivoting at corners. Better to figure out how to handle these on your practice piece than on your real quilt!

A heart shape has an 'innie" at the top and an "outie" at the bottom.
