If the machine is computerized, its self oiling or needs to be oiled by a repair center. So not to worry about oiling it yourself. My old Viking D1 era 2000 is computerized and I've never oiled it and it runs like a champ.

My Brother says it doesn't need to be oiled, I guess it is about 15 years old, I didn't see where it said to even take it to be serviced and be oiled, I use it alot.

No need to fret or panic. A lot of machines are self-oiling and sealed. I have 7 machines, including Brother, Pfaff, Singer, and Janome. It's not just one brand, either. One of my Janomes needs oiling and the other is sealed. One of my Brothers needs oiling and the other is sealed - and that one was my "daily driver" for 7+ years and is still going strong, despite having never been oiled.

    >>>>[COLOR=#362F2D]So the other day, I pulled out my Brother because I was going to use the blanket stitch on it to do some machine applique on a baby quilt I'm making. I gave her a good cleaning, changed the needle, then pulled out my trusty manual to see where the oiling points were. Can you imagine my frustration when the manual informed me that this machine was specifically made to NOT be oiled by the owner/user?!?!? According to the manual, your supposed to take it in to a Brother service center to be oiled!

So how is one supposed to know when it needs service?

I think this is scary! I'm happier with older machines that are all metal and need me to oil!

My Elna doesn't get oiled either--it's sealed and computerized. I do, although rarely, put a tiny drop of oil into the drop in bobbin wick--but that's it. Now my Gammill is another issue! I oil it several places every hour and the bobbin case every bobbin! Different rules for different machines.
