    Default Scallop border help needed !!!

    My quilt is 60.5" across ...... what size of a circle do I need to make a scalloped edge template ??? Been working on this 5 hours now !!! NOTHING is coming out ! I have ordered the quilt in a day ruler for this, but we are stumped !!! My DH & FIL are now trying to figure this out , to no avail !!

    Is it because it's not 60 but 60.5" across ??

    don't stress over the extra .5" ... just add that half inch to the center scallop. hth

    Here's what I would do. I would cut a piece of freezer paper (or other long paper such as waxed paper) to the length of the quilt and another to the width. I would fold the paper in half, then half again, then half again to evenly divide the length into equal sections. Once I had a section size I like, I would experiment with available saucers, cups, or whatever I could find around the house that is round to find a curved shape that fits well within the section size.

    Alternatively you could use a compass, drawing a straight line down the middle of the paper (or maybe several lines if you don't want a full half-circle for the scallop) and use a compass to draw between the folded sections.

    I learned something .... NOT a "scalloped" border .... but a "WAVY" border ! So there are no points , but a wavy edge ??

    For a wavy border, wouldn't you just reverse the scallop in every other section? You would want shallow scallops -- maybe a quarter of a saucer instead of a half saucer.

    I am math challenged so I use paper the length of the side, (plus the amount on the bottom and top) and fold the paper in half, then quarters etc. This gives me a crease for spacing my circle on the paper(plate with painter's tape across the middle). Once I have the outer curves where I want them' I reverse the plate for the inner curve. Once my paper pattern is perfect, I cut out the edge and pin it on the quilt. I do the other sides the same way and then stitch the curves before cutting the sandwich.

    Make 10 inch scallops and fudge a bit by adding the .5 inches somewhere in the middle. If the ruler doesn't work, use a regular ruler and a dinner plate.
