Default scallop edges on a quilt

I am working on a D4P for my soon to be born great nephew. The fabric has fire trucks on it, so it is not girlie at all. I am thinking about a border and making it with scalloped edge. My son looked at me like I was crazy and told me those curvey edges are girlie. What do you think? Its a quilt for a baby, will the scallop edging make it a girlie quilt? ( I have only made one scallop edge quilt so I was looking forward to the practice.. but I don't want to make it a girlie quilt for a little boy)

personally, i wouldn't put scallops on a boy's quilt. but if you want to dress up the edges a little, a gentle curve would probably look ok.

I'd be inclined to go with your son's opinion; being a boy himself, he has the inside scoop. I also tend to think of scallops as more of a girlie touch.

Unless you plan on incorporating fire trucks into the border and making the scalloped edges the wheels of the trucks, I would not put scalloped edges on a boys quilt.

My grandson's baby quilt has scalloped edges. Why? Because I wanted to try the technique. He has had it for 6 months and appears to still be a boy, so no harm done.

There are scallops and then there are SCALLOPS, depending on the size they can look kind of ruffly. Maybe safe the scallops for table runners etc. If you want a different edge try prairie points.

romanojg - good idea with the prairie points. I have never done those so I could learn something. Are they hard to do?

I also think of scallops as more of a feminine touch. While a young boy would probably have no problem with it, it might be a source of embarrassment, for an older one. Maybe you can learn scallops, on something for his mom.

There are lots of videos on them and many ways to do them. Some techniques makes them easier than others. You could use solid fabrics in the colors that are in the quilt and mix them up. That would be so pretty.
