Here's a tutorial to make continuous bias binding. You sew a tube first so you don't have to join the pieces:

You can also take a strip of material and make a facing for the scallops. Right sides together and follow the scallops. Clip seams and turn over, as you would do for a garment. On back side fold over raw edge and handsew.

When you are through quilting you trim the batting. Then I use my ruler and rotary cutter to trim the back 1" from the top. Fold that raw edge down to touch the top, then fold again. This gives you about 1/2" binding. Pin it down - mitering the corners. I like to use a blanket stitch, zigzag, or scallop stitch to sew it down. Search for self binding or fold over binding to get more information. My friend and I call this The Dark Side. She usually does her bindings the usual way but sometimes comes over to The Dark Side when in a rush.

Freddie - I have even done that when I didn't want a binding to show on the front of the quilt. I think it's called a "Knife edge binding". Hadn't thought of that for this, but I like that idea! If all else fails I'm doing it. The binding I'm using is the same fabric as the outer border so that should work fine. Thanks.

I have only done one scalloped border (a DWR) so I'm no expert. From doing some research, they recommended a single fold bias binding so that's what I did. I thought it worked pretty well when I had to fold where the circles met.

I agree. Bias binding is a must for scalloped edges. Look at the tutorial on continuous bias binding. Try on a small piece first and once you see how it goes together it will be a lot easier. Once I got my mind wrapped around both the scalloped and continuous bias, it was easy. Have fun. You will love the look.
