    I agree with the others. Bias would be necessary. I use bias binding for everything and I'm pretty much a beginner.

    I have done bias binding for curves on a quilt a few times. I cut 2.25" width doing a double fold binding. Use your 45 degree angle on your 24" ruler cutting of a triangle. The proceed as you would normally would. Sew them together but be very careful when press the binding in half. I would think it would be difficult to topstitch but I have seen Eleanor Burns do it. I like the look that hand stitching the binding to the back. Good Luck. Just take your time and don't be rushed.

    I just took a class by Darlene Zimmerman our quilt guild offered and she had us use single bias binding on scalloped edges. It was much easier than I thought it would be and I've never done anything with bias before!

    If you are wanting an easier ( or at least very straightforward ) method of finishing the edge of your scallops, a facing comes to mind. I don't know of a specific tutorial to direct you toward, but there is most likely one already on this board.
