I think you already know what you are going to do, and I think you know what you should do...

Oh sweetie, there is nothing wrong with quilting quilts on a regular old sewing machine. I have a Singer Confidence and quilts California Kings on it. If you really need a new machine, youn can get one for just couple of hundred bucks, and not have to worry about such enormous investment right now. And you son wouldnot want you to spend that kind of money just to make him a quilt. Besides, spend all that money,,,,,and then nothing left for fabric!! Yikes!!! Can't have that!!

ditto! I have a similar set-up (9" throat) Paid less than $1500 new.
Brother 1500s - GracyII frame - stitch regulator - laser light .....no computer. There is only about a 4"-6" playing field. If I were to concider a computer, I would do it with a Long arm. There are so many patterns that can not be done on this machine with out cutting the thread and rolling the quilt and reconnecting to the design. -- Q-bot is available for mine, but with the 4"-6" limit, I stick to pantograms. ---- I went to a sewing expo in Sept 09' with my sister and looked at all the options they had, long arms, mid arms, the different frames, ect. Then decided to wait a year to research. I saved the money I planned to spend. When I went to the expo in 2010, I still wasn't sure of what I wanted, but I did know that I had little experience of quilting with a machine on a frame. I found the set up I got and as I learn and gain experience I will decide if I want to upgrade or it meets my needs.

Thanks for all the replies, you all have been helpful, my husband is still looking on the computer for a cheaper one he thinks I should have a machine now, he spoils me. But I am going to look for a long time and try to find what I want cheaper, I am leary of used machines though. Thanks again, Happy New Year

For very close to that price you can buy a machine and LAquilting table if you look around.

I got my Juki and frame for less than 1500.00 so shop around. I know you could find a better deal.
Look on the net lots of internet companies offer free shipping in America.

You have seven quilts to practice on so I would rent time on a similar machine and see if you like it and what the learning curve will be. I know several people who have taken a lesson or two on my BIL's longarm and not returned when they found out how much work it is!! Good Luck.

If you don't have a job...don't spend money...You answered your own question with your own title, "SCARED TO BUY"...what part of that phrase don't you get?
