I agree, I would not buy until I got another job, then you can save your money to purchase a LAQ. You can buy a new one and have it financed. If you are planning on earning extra money with the machine and have not been longarming, it will take awhile to be able to quilt for others. just my opinion

Use the time to educate yourself and LA's. Visit stores and quilt show vendors and try them. All the while saving for the one you decide on. I want one also, but meanwhile I am quilting on my Janome. Diane/Wyoming

It's WONDERFUL to have a husband who wants to spoil us, but sometimes YOU have to be the adult and say "not now".

Yes, my husband spoils me too. We share the bounty in good times, and share the sacrifice in bad times - and in every case save for the unknown. It's not whether it will happen, but when. Being independent minded takes planning and effort. Nothing is free - not even charity.

Some quilt shops rent out their longarms. They show you how to load your quilt and away you go. That might be an option for you to finish your sons quilt.

With this economy you should get a job first. That money you got won't last forever.

It's looking better on the job front, I have a phlebotomy position if I want it and a job interview tomorrow with a cardiologist office for medical assisting/laboratory. I really want a job with Labcorp.

If it's for a 9" throated machine, I personally think that is too much. Keep your eye on Craigslist for a better deal imho
