Were both working before you took it in for servicing?
If not, did you identify these problems when you delivered your machine for the work?
Either ways ... get back in touch with your service tech.
Perhaps s/he can help you on the phone. Or perhaps you need to take it back.
After your paying for the work, definitely all should be working.
However, if by chance you had not mentioned the problem you should accept some responsibility for it.
Regardless, definitely something that they should follow through on for you.
Good Luck!

I have had my Brother 1500 serviced several times and each time something didn't work afterwards! I was so frustrated with the repair guy at the dealers I asked him if he test sewed on the machine after he finished the repair. He just gave me a look like I didn't know anything. The Juki tech told me the problem with my Brother the last time it froze up. The Brother tech didn't bother to tell me what caused the problem. I loved the Brother 1500 but bought a Juki for better service I could get in my area.

One time I had a repairman clean my machine, called me said it was ready, thought that was wonderful. I get in, he brings the machine out and tells me there were a could items that needed to be replace. Really? You couldn't mention that on the phone so I could have you go ahead and do it? I did have another repairman replace my threading item on my Janome - it was only $15.00 so I wasn't upset but thought it odd he didn't call first.
So sometimes the person doing the repairs doesn't realize that you want the machine back quickly and in full working condition, so if you brought it in for cleaning, they only clean it. They don't do the extra mile checking.

The brother 1500 novelle is my favorite. On the front of the right side of the machine is a thread cutting button and another button for locking the needle down position. There's a little red light when it's set to needle down. The other setting, it'll stop when the foot peddle is released.
If this is all set. I'd take it back to the service. And when you pick it up, ask to be set up so you can sew on it before leaving the store.
