Right now I have a string quilt going with a red strip down the middle and then dark, light, dark strips on one side and light, dark, light on the other in black and white fabrics. I think it will be very striking. If not, it will be warm anyway. I would call it a controlled scrappy. It's fun to try new things. Usually I make string quilts out of whatever I pull out of the bag! The quilt police don't get any respect here!

What size square did you start with in the center of the Crayon Box Quilt? Did you just keep adding 2.5 in strips? I love it. It is so Happy.

The only thing about Scrappy's is controlling ourselves to know when to stop. lol.

I think you could do a scrappy big box quilt. You'd just have to make sure you have a lot of contrast between your lights and darks, and use the same fabrics for light and dark in one square.

Mirish, if you Google Crayon Box you will find the free pattern. I put the blocks together 5 at a time. Easy peasy!!!

    Perhaps a controlled scrappy.
    Hmmmm
I would think it would look great scrappy as long as the dark strip was all the same, or the light strip all the same with scrappy darks. In part two she cut up a pannel, and it was great. One color the same would tie it all together.

Yes there is, and I've made several of them, especially for family reunion quilts where my relatives send me fabric in a chosen color, then I assemble the quilt. The most dramatic quilt I made was a Dresden plate in blues - I received almost all medium to bright blues and the quilt was totally awesome. I could not have expected that they would all send that range of blue, then I tied the blocks together with a the same fabric for the center of the plates and for the sashing. I used the pattern by Eleanor Burns and it went together fairly easily.

I love this quilt. I love that the sashings are scrappy too.
Really cheerful and fun to look at.

Love you design, did you make up the design or do you have a pattern for it. Can you PM with the answer, because I don't always find the answer.
