I have been obsessed with this idea since the thread was started! Last night I started putting what I think will be a 16 patch or at least my take on it. I'm not sure how I will do the edges but will be in the green fabric to frame it

I've started piecing hexies also -- just don't have a clue what I'm going to do with them yet. It is a fun portable project. I think that is one I will take to Denver with me this next week. I bet I can get a lot of them done at night in the hotel.

I love making hexies , especially with 1930's reprduction prints. Your scrappy hexagon quilt will look great! Since I have discovered silk thread I find I enjoy joining the hexies together more than I used to. Silk thread is so fine it kind of disappears into the fabric so it is invisible and the joins look much better than using regular thread - well, at least with my stitching they do. ha ha Also I find silk thread very easy to use as it doesn't tangle. Good luck with your quilt!

I making one out of scraps. It's years in the making. I made muslin hexie's as the "background" Problem is, it's a long term project and now the muslin's don't match and I'm very disappointed in it. I don't know whether to continue with it or "un-sew" the flowers from the muslin and start over. Right now it's a UFO just sitting on a shelf.

I have an old, GFG quilt top that I found in estate sale years ago. I think it really was done in the 30s, as all of the fabrics are from that era and the top looks old. Unfortunately, the maker wasn't very precise in her piecing and it is going to need some reworking to get it completed. I don't know if I want to touch her heartfelt work, or just leave it the way it is. I can't really use it for much the way it is right now. Does it take THAT long to do hexies? (In other words, is it as bad a small pieced yo-yo quilt?) I already have a lot of 30s feedsack fabrics to get me started.
BTW, I love the 16 patch hexi. To me, the green looks like leaves.

I tried to do it in 16 patch and it did not work. I am thinking about doing it as a 14 patch instead. A row of 4, then a row of 3, then a row of 4, then a row of 3. If it doesn't look right, I will just convert it to a completely scrappy hexagon quilt.
