Smile Scrappy ideas. What do YOU do with scraps?

Hey everyone. So I was wondering if I am the only one that keeps small scraps...What do you use your scraps for? I know you ladies and gents are very creative, so lets share some ideas! I throw all of mine in a bag as I am cutting, and plan on stuffing them all inside of a pillow case to make into a small dog bed. Or maybe I will sew a nice fancy dog bed and use the scraps to fill it. I hope there isn't already a thread on this. I did a quick search and didn't see one.

I have to confess I didn't use to save "scraps" from quilts I made. But now if it's a few inches and worth saving I do keep them in a drawer. Right now I am making this quilt. I am using scraps but they were still big pieces of fabric before I began. They were mostly left over from a civil war quilt and I threw in other fabrics as well.

I cut my scraps into use able pieces Bonnie hunter style. Anything 3/4" or goes into a string bin. anything skinnier goes into a grocery bag and will go into a dog bed . I do not through any scraps away. Fabric is so expensive in the uk.

I cut anything I can into 2.5 inch squares and trade them here on the board. Anything smaller goes in my string quilt box.

I cut the leftovers into usable pieces (tumblers, rail fence, 2.5", etc) the little ones go into dog beds for a shelter. Interesting thread -always nice to see what others do.

Nygal, your quilt is stunning! Keep the ideas coming everyone. I know a lot of people do make scrappy quilts from some scraps. I didn't know so many others had thought about the dog bed stuffing idea also. I was just cutting fabric and it popped into my head. Im brand new to this so I dont have that many scraps YET, but im sure my scrappy bag will fill quickly since I have been sewing so much lately.

Most of mine go to a retired, living on fixed income, lady who does miniatures and small wall quilts.

@ nygal: post #2: This is going to be way cool when completed.

I sort scraps into various sizes from largest (about the size of a fat quarter) down to 1 1/2" piecies. Put them into labled, clear shoe boxes.

When I find a pattern I want to do I start at my scraps in the sizes that fit into the quilt.

All my scraps go into quilts. When they get to small to use the birds and squirrels get them for nesting material.

i have two big tubs of scraps. i dig in there for small projects... mug rugs, wall hangings, pot holders... on and on.
my threads and shavings are saved in a bag for the birds to use in their nests.
