Yesterday I started separating my scraps and didn't want a lot of containers since I'm trying to minimalize space. So I have separated by color. In each clear container, strips on the bottom, larger in the middle and smaller on top. Yardage up to 3 yds is on comic boards. The rest on the flat bolts.

I just went to a Guild meeting where the table decorations were a 2-wire wreath frame [from Michaels] and tied on fabric scraps, tied with a simple once-over I believe, on each wire. The scraps looked to be about 1" x 5" each, and the makers had sorted by color and made about 12 different "rainbows" of scraps.

I try to use up leftover fabric from a quilt top in the backing. Almost all of my backings are pieced.

I try to stay on top of scraps since I have such a small sewing space. I cut them into sizes I think I'm likely to use and then sort them by value--light, medium and dark. Sizes I generally cut to are 10" square, 5" square, 3.5" square, 2" square and 2.5" strips. If it's fat quarter sized or larger it doesn't get precut, just folded and put with like sized fabrics.

Since I started cutting everything with my Go machine I have very few scraps, mostly only thin strips.

I use the 2" and 3.5" square Go dies with my Sizzix to cut my scraps into those sizes. It's kind of addictive using that thing.....LOL

When my scrap bins get full I make a scrap quilt. That way I keep it under control.

Similar to Sinceresissy, I have tried to keep my stash to a minimum and buy what I need for a project. However, since I have now been sewing 5 years, I had no trouble cutting up a bin of 2.5" squares for a leaders/enders project. You always end up with a little bit of leftovers from each project no matter how hard you try to estimate the yardage... and I have now organized my scraps into 3 fish bins (totes). I am going to use Donnajeans idea next time and incorporate some of the leftovers into the backing.

I've noticed my scrap pile being smaller since I started using the Go to cut my fabric. It really is less fabric waste.
