I was originally going to do a D9P with 3" scraps. I have decided the disappearing part isn't for me. What other things can I do with misc. 3" scraps? There are few duplicates, but the majority of them there is only one of each fabric pattern.

Don't I need multiples of of the same fabric for a "Trip Around the Word"?

I'm curious, why did you decide that you didn't like the D9P part of the pattern. Yes you'd end up with small blocks, but they wouldn't be 3" when you finish cutting them, they'd be more like 4" with a design element.

You could just sort them into light/dark or light/medium/dark and do scrappy squares all over.

I was thinking you could to 4 patch blocks and then just put them together or use them to make triangles for scrappy baskets and use your favorite color for the basket part, or flying geese units (maybe dutchman puzzle with a background fabric. the link sharon b posted does look nice too.

I had a hard time cutting them evenly. I was finding that I'd cut a bit off center and the block would be ruined.

I love this scrappy block and someday I am going to make a quilt with this block. It is all hst, but I don't mind that. The pattern says 3 7/8" squares, but you really could use any size.

Tonight at the store I saw a quilt in the current issue of of Sew Scrappy, it looked like it might be a good lay out for you. It had blocks made of squares 2 blocks across and 3 rows down for each "block" xx
    xx
    xx
Then around each block of 6 squares were thing sashing strips (all the same color-theirs was blue). Then a boarder around all of it. Their squares were 2 12 inches but it would work with 3" blocks too. You could adjust your sashing and boarders to get the finished size you want.
