This is exactly what I was thinking! I have 2, one I can't find and the other one I don't know where it is...seems like especially when I need the darn thing!

I have a couple but the best is a battery powered mustache trimmer! I have used it to take apart seams and I didn't like the way I quilted a quilt and got all those stitches out without damaging the fabric!!

I don't use a so called seam ripper although I have one, but I use the Wiss clipper, its brown variegated.

I tried this way but it takes too much time for me. I can zip the seam open with a seam ripper/cutter in seconds, run a scotchbite pad down a long seam and all the thread pieces are picked up in one swipe. I don't think many know how to use a seam ripper, if you are picking out a few stitches every few stitches, then you are wasting a lot of time. In one basic quilting class we were told to sew seams using scraps and spent and spent time learning how to take out seams without distorting the fabric.

My very favorite is the Bernina seam ripper. My sister gets them for me. The blades a a little smaller and are really sharp.

I have 3 maybe 4. I like my clover the best. Got it on Amazon.com. But I have to say the one that I use the most is the small one that goes in my sewing machine gadget compartment. Just the most handy.

I have a gazillion and none of them work as well as the blades I get at Harbor Freight. They are in packs of ten for $2.98. They are replacement blades for a utility knife and have a sturdy flat side that you can hold onto pretty easily. They have a point that fits under the seam and because they are so sharp they glide through the seam like butter. I used to use box cutters from Delta Air Lines that were easily 25 years old, but when they dull that is it you have to throw them away. You cannot get box cutters like that since 9/11. I've tried every commercial seam ripper on the market, or at least it seems that way, and the razor blade is by far the best. Of course if I didn't make mistakes then I wouldn't need a seam ripper; however, that not being the case I reccomend the blades.

Where did you buy them so others can see the kind and we can order them online or pickup while shopping at fabric or quilt shops.

If online, post the link to show us your seam ripper you have. Thanks!

This should be a fun thread.
I have three Clovers because I'm always misplacing them. Got them various places. They have the white handles.
