I assume you mean seam stitching. I stitch only once unless my seam is crooked.

Just once with Aurifil thread. Aurifil is strong but thin so it reduces the amount of fabric needed when the seams if opened up and pressed. If you sew twice you will lose almost 1/16 of an inch on your piecing so calculate accordingly.

I've been doing that once for years on fabric.. sails and chutes 2 x's. Then fold and top stitch = 3 x's upholstery (auto) once .

Then a years years ago a friend, who had worked for levis said to do every thing twice . most the quilting I've done in the last few yrs has been a heavier fabric, so twice on that.

this week I doing a light cotton, was doing twice, untill a seam ripped out in a mid run, because of there being so many holes in such a close area, Errrrrrrrrr

so I'm back to once but when I fold over and iron in spot I see the thread

Thanks , I'm going to stay with one pass.

okay that was weird. I just tried to correct a spelling error and the site shut off. I will leave the if where it should say is.

I sew once unless I have to go back and straighten a seam. You say you still see your thread stitches after you iron, maybe shorten the length of your stitches a bit.

I would think twice might create bulkier seams and inaccurate piecing, but I have never done twice
