In search of Maine quilt design or ideas
I have a friend who lives in Maine and would like me to make a quilt for her and her husband. They would like to have on the quilt bears, canoes, pine trees, moose etc. Things you would find in Maine. I am looking for patterns, but haven't found anything great ... any ideas ??? Thank you Erin

1) are you looking for quilting designs, pieced designs, applique or printed fabric?
2) MAKE SURE that you decide on a price and get something in writing, even if it's for your BFF. This board is littered with posts on comissions gone bad! At least get the cost of your materials up front!

I agree with jhoward. The Holly Taylor fabrics are just what you need if you can still find them.
So I just checked ebay (I really do love her fabrics!!!) and maybe this would get you started:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Moda-Lodge-T...item3a807f1d00
or this:

or this:

Well, just google Holly Taylor or put her name in the ebay search and you will probably find just what you want. There are a number of choices of Maine like fabric. I have a collection of her fabrics to make myself a quilt some day because as I mentioned, I love Holly Taylor fabrics. When I was a kid, we used to camp every year in Maine and the connected states. I have such fond memories of those days.
Hope the links come through and hope this helps.

Here is a great site for "bear and moose patterns".

There are beautiful north woods fabrics out there. I've seen many with bears, moose, pine trees, cabins in the woods. I was thinking more about lighthouses, though. There are a number of them in Maine. But you might have to design your own pattern for those. To include both themes, maybe use fabric printed with north woods themes, and lakes. And pieced lighthouses, or prints of lighthouses. I was thinking of pieced lighthouses, though, because there are generic fabrics for woodsy themes, and there may not be any fabric of Maine lighthouses.
