I agree there has to be a few must send dates for everyone. More than that would up to the discretion of the friend. Should be like all the special holidays/birthdays/anniversaries at least. We don't want anyone getting lazy or anything!!!

My painting club had "secret pal" exchanges for a long time. It was a lot
of fun. Then they discontinued it - bummer. It was a really neat way
of getting to know someone. I like the idea of sending fat quarters, not
a lot at one time, just 2-4. Then the postage wouldn't be so bad.

What may be needed is a different catagory for what you want to do....call it Special Friends instead. 2 people could be paired up and give little gifts and menentos to each other at the specific special dates, and also send e-mail messages to each other. It wouldn't be secret, but would be a way to meet and know others where ever one lives. How does this idea sound?
