The first one was the hardest for me. I agonized over the placement of every single hex for weeks. I arranged and rearranged. After that it was much easier, and I really didn't agonize. I would recommend that you take a photo and print it out. You will be amazed how things jump out that you didn't notice in real life. It makes it easy to see a block that really doesn't mesh with any around it. Good luck!!

And this part is exactly why I love making these - the chance to input your own design process rather than just following a pattern. The guidelines in the book can help you get started but then it's over to you! Gai's idea of taking a pic is a good one and your eye will develop over time - good luck!

Your fabric is beautiful, and the hexes look great. Just experiment moving them around, and when you're tired of looking at it stop and come back a few hours later. You'll know when it's done, and remember there's no "right answer".

Thanks for the tips and hints ... yes, I did pics as per my posted pic!! :)

And said this was Round One ... I knew better than to start playing with it endlessly. So am leaving it for atleast a day.

I think my mind-block on this has come because most of the ones that have been posted are more dark/jeweled and little light. Whereas mine is reverse with more lighter hexes and less of the heavyness that comes from the darks.

Right now it's not flowing and needs a little more balance ... it'll come, I know!!

I really do appreciate the different ideas as to how to get it looking more put together.

And please ... do keep the feedback coming! :)

forget color and arrange by value. stand back and squint or take your glasses off and look for those that stand out by value.
