Carole King was the first one that came to mind.
Some great folk songs by Peter, Paul and Mary also come to mind.

I always loved this Don McLean line:

We walked both sides of every street
Through all kinds of windy weather
But that was never our defeat
As long as we could walk together

But there's no need for turning back
For all roads lead to where we stand
And I believe we'll walk them all
No matter what we may have planned.

I don't know who wrote it or where it came from but there is an old folksy song that talks about bells its called "my ding a ling". and then there is "If I had a hammer" my dad has a cd of old folksy songs on it and those two are on there.
