I only do one quilt project at a time...only buy fabric for the quilt I plan on working on, and I try to keep my scraps color coded together so I know what I have if I want to do pot holders or placemats. I do buy "kits" that I know I will like, when I see them and put them away until the mood strikes me to do one. I do bags (purses) between quilt projects just to give my self some quick satisfaction. I have to start with at least a sorta tidy sewing room...i close the doors evenings if I'm done for the day and will be back at it the next day.

Are you kidding me? Why mess up perfectly good confusion? The only time I do this is when there's no room left on the cutting table! I hate putting away. Is there a good fairy who does that? Send her my way, please.

I am with tallchick. UFO's don't bring me joy, so I try not to have more than one. I also like to clean up a project before starting anything else. I read before I start, too. I usually photograph anything I finish before putting it away. All incoming fabric is folded the same way and smaller pieces are carded. I don't consider it OCD--I know I do my best work in a clean, organized environment.

Another rule is that I never, EVER empty the trash can in my sewing room until the quilt is completely done. Can't tell you how many times I've ended up forgetting to cut a piece, needed another paper-pieced block, etc., and found that I threw away the last of the copied pattern, scraps, etc...

I learn something from each quilt I make. Sometimes it is an intended lesson - like when I try something new and either learn how to do it or learn how not to do it. Other times it is an unintended lesson. But either way, I am constantly learning.

I don't know if that is a rule, but I was thinking about it yesterday when I thought, "Oh, so that is why you don't attach the binding that way!" It was too late to take it out, but I now know why.

Amazed at all the different personalities and yet our love of quilting is very obvious.
