I'm trying to trim the selvage off some "dull satin". I'm using the Square it up ruler and have already squared the ends up. Has anyone ever has the selvage piece get wider and wider when you're trying to trim it square? I start out at about 1/2 inch and end up almost at 3"!

Project has to be finished by in the morning!! :(

Help!!!!!! Please PM if you have any answer to this problem??

Let me try to explain it better!! LOL

I'm trimming the selvage of the fabric. But when I square it up with the end of the fabric which I've already squared up, the selvage edge gets wider and wider as I move along the yardage.

Why would it do this? That's just means that by the time I trim the selvage that has been squared, the straight of the grain is going to be off.

    Did this make sense?

I wouldn't worry about squaring up the fabric, go by the selvage and just cut that off, the same width all the way along the length of your fabric.

I had something similar happen with flannel. There was a twist when it was originally made at the manufacturer. I didn't worry about straight of grain and just did what SewSydney suggested.
