I've used the Maxi-Lock serger thread for a few quilts now and it has worked just fine. Sure is a money saver too!

I'm glad this came up. For some reason I have a cone of serger thread---will give it a try.

I've been using it for years since I buy it for my serger anyway. Have never had a problem.

I was given 2 huge Rubbermaid totes of serger thread that my old UPS lady had (her mom died and she knew I sewed) and that's how I learned. I keep the cones in a coffee mug (since the cones are too big to sit on top of the machine) and it works perfectly.

I usually only use a 14 needle when I'm sewing denim.

I use lighter/thinner needles for regular piecing.

I do have a serger, but I've used it for quilting, too. I also use embroidery thread for serging, so I guess I'm not the one to know what the rules are! No rules in this house!

I frequently use serger thread for piecing with no issues. Go for it unless your machine has a tendency to be picky about thread.

Serger thread is not the same ply as ordinary thread it is too weak to be really successful as a quilting thread. That is unless you use strong specialty thread in your serger. You can use ordinary thread in the serger with no problem, but unwise to do it the other way around if you want your project to last.
