On my 770 I use stitch #4 and dial to adjust the width and length. In fact I just used it yesterday to make Easter bunting for my granddaughter.

Yes, the stitch I use is #4 that looks like a multi stitch zig zag, when I increased the stitch length becomes a serpentine.

I make a practice sample of whatever I am going to use the serpentine stitch on. Then I play with the length and width adjustments. when I find one I like....I write down the width and length changes on a sticky note and put it on my machine...The most common thing I use the serpentine stitch for is to stitch down the binding to the front of the quilt as I do it all with machine... no hand stitching for me especially now that I have lost some fine motor control with my hands. Oh, and also note where you are lining up your foot with the binding. I have found a spot where my stiches land pretty consistently on the back binding too and makes it much neater, I can usually even make the mitered corners look pretty neat.

Thanks I will try that. I was looking on the stitch card and not the machine so I missed it!
