I have done that but with only minor cuts. Washed it out with alcohol and it healed in a few days. Didn't even think of going to the doctor. Husband made me pointed sticks of wood so I would not put my fingers so near in the future.
    LOL

Sorry to hear of your sewing accident.
When I was 4 yrs. old, I think, I was in the house by myself and wanted to mend a sweater of mine that had a hole in it so was trying to use my mom's treadle machine while she was outside....well my finger got caught and the needle went straight thru my finger.....I started screaming and my mom came flying in the house and had to rush me to the dr.......a day I've never forgotten.
Later in life I nicked the side of my finger by getting it too close.
    I feel your pain.....ouch.....

Oh YES! I worked as a power machine operator for many years. When you put a needle into your finger in the factory, you were considered a real honest to goodness operator. About every 8 to 10 months, someone would do that. I worked in a shirt factory for some time. The lady that put in buttonholes got her finger stuck. That machine is automatic. Once it starts, the cycle will complete. After the stitching is done, the knife comes down. She had no choice but to sit and dread the thing to finish. She came back to work the next day. I will never forget her.:(

I've done that... I turned to say something to my friend and sewing the side of my finger right by my fingernail. Automatic reaction is to jerk your finger out. Thank goodness I didn't put the needle through my fingernail.

It will hurt for a while, but will eventually get better.
