I did. I will never forget. I was young and Mom was doing the mending and had to step away from the machine for something. I decided it was very interesting, had to check it out, and promptly sewed the needle into my thumb, right through the nail. Ouch! Have never done it again, though. :?

I did that when I was about 7 at my Grandmothers house with her treadle. She and Moma had told me to be careful and there I sat with the needle in my pointer finger. I never said a word. Luckily my Aunt Alma was watching and slipped over and raised the needle out. We pulled it open and poured hydrogen peroxide in and through it LOL then put King Payne Salve on it and though it was sore a few days it got better. I think I could take pain better when I was younger and I went right back to sewing when they bandaged it up.
Hope it's better soon. With us being on the farm so much we always kept our tetnus shots up to date.

No matter what the dr says if you keep the antiobiotic gel on it it will help with the soreness. On other injuries on my fingers I would put Polysporin on it and wrap it at night and it usually would help the soreness trememdously.

My grandmother sewed completely through the nail of her pointer finger, stopped, and reversed stitched to pull it out! The story has it that since it went all the way through that she had to pull the remaining thread through her finger to get that out too! I think of that every time my fingers get too close!

Holding the finger above your heart will help with the throbbing, as others have mentioned.
My mama always told me if you have a cut finger the hot soapy water for doing dishes is just what you need! I beg to differ!!! However a soak in hot water with epsom salt will help if it starts to get infected (usually recommended for ouchies in the foot, but works for fingers too).
Hope you're all better soon!
