    After, definitely!

After, of course! (No buttons or other embellishments on baby quilts, please!)

I always sew them on after the quilting. Love adding buttons for that special effect. :-)

I made my husband a golf quilt it turned out really cute. I was almost finished with the hand quilting when I accidently cut a small hole in it. I found a button that looked like a golf ball, fixed the hole with fray check, covered it with the button and named the quilt------"A hole in one". So for sure after for buttons.

My small quilt group each made a block for a quilt that our guild was going to auction off. Some us us put some buttons on our block (not thinking ahead). When one of us quilted it, she had a little trouble quilting around the buttons. But it is a great quilt. I was the high bidder!
