Thou shall not let thy fingers hang over the cutting edge of thy ruler.
Thou shall not applique thine clothes onto thine quilt block.
Thou shall not test thine iron by touching it. My 14 year old son still has trouble with this. I have no idea why. We suspect he may not be entirely human--LOL.

I would have to add...
thou shalt keep thy fingers away from the iron when pressing seams, learned this the hard way today. (it is one thing to tap the bottom of the iron real quick to check it, but quite another to iron the side of the finger.. ouch)

I've done all of these - last week I was ready to pitch my iron and head to the store for a new one, so...
When all else fails, make sure it's plugged in!
And your son is not the only one who has issues checking hot stuff with his hands, my neighbors dd has on more than one occasion watched me take a pan out of the oven with a hot pad - and ask me "is it hot?" as she puts her hands on it!

Thread coming out of needle...check.
Sewing without bobbin thread...check.
Cutting strips and blocks for my Christmas wallhanging...and some are too short...check. And what makes it worse is...when I cut them the 2nd time they were too short again...LOL. Check
I also touch my finger to my iron...taught by my mother too. She always wet her finger and then touched the iron so of course I do the same. Love to hear that little sizzle...lol.

I am sitting here LOL at all these, but have to realize that I am part of the crowd. I think I have committed all of these at one time or another, some more than others  So much fun being in the same crowd
