    Kaelyn, what brand machine do you have? On my Janome when you drop the feed dogs with the switch and then switch it back to the feeddogs up position it does not engage and raise them until you start stitching.

    It could also be your pressure foot pressure, or a bind in the machinery. take the machine in for a check up & ask the pro's to fix it
