Take a look at a Juki. My longarm machine is a Juki and is reasonable with a nice throat for quilting.

I have a Janome 6600 and have a larger space but I testes the new Janome Horizons & it has 11 inches! Doesn't that sound sexy!!!!!

I am no expert. I just started and have only finished 1 top and am still marking it for quilting. I took a class last month and was afraid of maching quilting since it is a queen and is HUGE! I want to use it before I am 100 so hand quilting for me is out of the question. My instructor said that it is possible to do with a regular size machine and she had even done a king but it will not be easy, just to work on small sections at a time. ? I hope that will help. I want to start on mine within the next few weeks.

if you are just looking for FMQ i would say the brother PQ1500s has 9 inch throat and you can find them online for $500 , I think there is a similar juki but cant remember the model number

I just FMQ a queen size on my Brother SQ9000. I just rolled it, and didn't have any problems. Of course, now it is acting crazy, and has to be sent for repairs, and only 9 months old. Off to buy a backup Sunday.

How about looking at used machines? Or looking at new ones to find out what you like and then shoppig for a used one?
There are lots of reasons a machine is for sale....
